Thornton Hall hotel welcomes cricket legend Sir Garry Sobers
West Indies cricket legend Sir Garry Sobers checked into the Wirral for an appearance at Thornton Hall Hotel and Spa whilst attending a fundraising cricket dinner which was at Birkenhead School on June 7th.
The dinner was in aid of Birkenhead School’s first ever overseas cricket tour to Barbados this summer. The tour will see the school’s 1st XI compete in the Sir Garry Sobers festival. The tour will enable the school to contribute both cricket equipment and coaching resources to a local club side in Barbados.
Thornton Hall Hotel
& Spa General Manager Geoff Dale said the hotel was hugely honoured
to play host to a great of the game.
“Legend is an overused word in
sport but not in Sir Garry Sober’s case,” he said. “Few would dispute
he was one of the finest all round players in modern cricket, reflected
by the fact he was knighted for services to cricket in 1975. He is a
true gentleman of the game and his speech will be followed by a
question and answer session.”
